Ben Santiago
Exclusive interview with one of Ibiza’s favourite residents…
Your favourite record you put on in the morning to start the day with a smile…
Stevie Wonder ‘As’ – guaranteed to do the job!
Breakfast would be taken at where…and would be the perfect plate?
Depending on the mood. If it was after a heavy night out, it’s got to be the trusty full English with Pete The Butcher’s bacon and sausages. On a normal morning, fruit with yoghurt and nuts is always a good way to start the day!
What dish reminds you of your childhood?
Mmmm. I’m gonna say home made Apple Crumble with custard.
Dinner on a budget…
Stay in and have beans on toast.
Dinner on no budget…
Can Domingo in San Josep. Outstanding.
Best tapas on the island…
I like Bar Destino in San Josep because it’s tapas with a bit of a twist. They have different Morrocan, Asian and other international dishes, all of which are very good and at an affordable price.
The best cocktails in Ibiza can be found at…
Rock Bar. Try and pick a night when Mr Doris is playing, get stuck into those cocktails and you’ll have a great night out!
What DJ is the best cook on the island and what have they cooked you?
Definitely Paul Reynolds. We recently went round there and he had laid on a massive feast for about twenty of us. Him and Faye are great hosts too!
After club chill at…
Your own place or someone else’s.
Can you cook? Your signature dish…
I’ve got a few moves, but I could probably count them all on one hand! My signature dish is a lamb lasagne which includes a layer of roasted butternut squash. I have to say it’s pretty special!
The finest host on the island…
The Reynolds!
Best sushi in Ibiza…
Can’t say. Not really a major fan of sushi.
A dish you just cannot eat…
Anything that contains offal. Liver & kidneys make my stomach turn!
Your favourite picnic beach…
Cala Vadella. It’s very close to where we live and you can always find a quiet spot there.
Your guilty pleasures dish…
The old trusty favourite: Chocolate brownie.
A record that always reminds you of Ibiza…
Electra – Autumn Love
The most delicious paella is where…
Again, not a major fan of paella if I’m honest! No disrespect to the locals, but I find there are normally better dishes on the menu than paella.
Some of your favourite restaurants from around the world…
I recently rediscovered Lebanese food in Brasil of all places. There’s a restaurant in Florianopolis called Marhaba and I was blown away by how good the food was.
Also a big fan of Mexican food and Wahaca in Covent Garden is a must!
An album you love driving around Ibiza listening to…
Pink Floyd – Wish You Were Here
The best pizza in Ibiza is at…
Can Verge in San Josep is very good. They have a pizza there called ‘La Jefa’ (‘The Boss’) which is incredible. Bacon, onion, cream, almonds and gorgonzola cheese. Yum!
The best Hierbas on the island…
Can Cires, San Mateu
The perfect 24 hours in Ibiza would be…
As long as I wake up next to my wife and go to sleep with her by my side, I’m happy.
The perfect sunset tune…
Deep Forest – Sweet Lullaby
